I wanted to share this with someone but wasn’t sure who to tell. I haven’t really spoken to anyone about my reading habits (in detail) before. This is something I do in solitude, some quiet and alone time that I cherish.
So I guess I’ll plop some of my observations here, instead!
Last summer, I started on a reading spree. It began in July, prompted by a book club started in a Discord server I usually only lurked in. I missed reading, and I was fascinated by the idea of an electronic club (having never joined any sort of book discussion group before). Unfortunately, the group has since gone inactive, but I added from their first poll (“What should we read first?”) several titles to my to-read list on Goodreads.
That month, I finished 6 books, followed by 6 more in August. Likely due to school starting up again late September, I’d finish my next book in October. For the last three months of the year, I would only read 2 each month.
Sometime last month I realized I hadn’t completed a book since December. What was keeping me so busy the first few months of the year? Perhaps due to this feeling of restlessness — too much free time on my phone — that has come with the COVID-19 pandemic, I dove back into my backlog of books on April 18.
Before the month had ended, I’d completed 6 books. So far, for the month of May, I’ve completed 3.
I look forward to seeing how long I can keep the momentum running this time.
